Sports day at the Refuge Community Service

Sports day at the Refuge

The Sports Day at The Refuge, an orphanage housing children till senior school, organised by The Rotary Satellite Club of Calcutta Chowrenghee for Grades 1 to 5 was a sureshot success. The rain gods even couldn’t stop them to provide a fun exciting day for the participating kids! The event started with a 15 minutes fitness camp. The hall was divided into different obstacle stations. Each child got a chance to shine in the activity. This was followed by a balancing race for which the boy & girl winners got specially curated medals (gold, silver and bronze) by the Rotary Club. The finale & the crowd pleaser was the tug of war team sport that got the maximum excitement

Thalassemia Awareness and Quiz Community Service

Thalassemia Awareness and Quiz

Thalassemia Awareness was conducted at the Indus Valley World School as a Zone 13 project between four clubs which include Calcutta Chowrenghee, Mid-East, Urbana, and Harmony. The DG Dr. Ramdas Homchaudhuri conducted the awareness session for the Interactors. PDG Rajani Mukherjee, PDG Prabir Chatterjee, Subhojit Roy, DGM Purnendu Roychowdhury were present along with the AG and ZS of Zone 13 . Rtn Abhenav Khettry from Calcutta Chowrenghee conducted a quiz on GK and Thalassemia for the students. The students also composed a beautiful song on Thalassemia and present a project model as well.

Health camp (By NBNWCC)

RC Chowrenghee conducted a Health camp with 168 participants, 6 doctors, 2 Neotia hospital coordinators and 2 volunteers at our Nepalgunje RCC in the Mother Memorial School premises on 10 th October at 11 am. The camp was attended by the Club President Vidhi Beri and Clib Secretary Vineet Bagaria. The objective of the camp was to do conduct a health check up for mother and child inclusive of weight, nutrition, area specific diseases, deworming, diabetes and blood pressure checks among others. Free Medicines were administered and distributed on site for basic fever, cough and cold, and digestive illness symptoms

Cervical Cancer Awareness Camp

*Promoting Women’s Health Through Cervical Vaccination Awareness* A Cervical Vaccination Awareness Camp was conducted at Majilpur Shyamsundar Balika Vidyalaya, Joynagar, as part of a Global Grant initiative in collaboration with Rotary Belur. The session was attended by approximately 100 parents. The objective of the camp was to enhance awareness regarding cervical cancer prevention, with a focus on educating parents about the significance and benefits of vaccination. This initiative reflects Rotary’s continued commitment to promoting women’s health and preventive care in the community. The camp was attended by Rotarian Manisha Srivastava.

*Healthy families, happy communities – Joynagar Health Camp in action* A General Health Camp in collaboration with Neotia Hospital was organized at Joynagar where parents and children from the community were provided with free health checkups. Doctors conducted thorough examinations, offering guidance on preventive care and overall wellbeing. To support families further, free medicines were distributed to those in need. The camp aimed to spread awareness about the importance of regular health monitoring while extending essential healthcare facilities to underprivileged sections of society. Pediatric Heart surgery

27th August visit to Neotia Newtown hospital for pediatric heart surgery. PP Jayshree Sanghvi and Rtn. Vrinda Kanoria visited Arvika Mondol and her family post a successful surgery completed yesterday. The medical team and senior hospital admin also explained the process as well as social and rural initiatives undertaken by the hospital . The surgery for the child was completed on 26 th august. The patient family paid half the cost of the surgery.

Hearing Aid screening camp

Rotary Chowrenghee organized a hearing aid camp at Joynagar in association with Amplifon. Approximately 50 individuals underwent detailed audiometric screening conducted by qualified representatives. Those identified with significant hearing impairment have been shortlisted and will be provided with customized hearing aids within the next two weeks, ensuring timely intervention and improved quality of life. Tree Fruit Sapling distribution

Rotary Chowrenghee organized a sapling distribution drive at Joynagar to encourage environmental conservation and community participation. Each family received five saplings, with a total of 125 families benefitting from the initiative. By enabling the plantation of over 600 trees, the project aims to promote greenery, improve air quality, and create long-term ecological benefits for the region. Club Foot Community Service

Club Foot

We are providing braces for children with club foot such that they are able to walk and gain dignity as individuals once they grow up. The child is born with inverted feet and is unable to walk. Children with club foot can be screened at the prenatal stage and mothers are counselled. If they are brought in through the Anganwadi awareness in rural and semi rural areas then they can get assistance from the new born stage and their shoes can be fitted every few months as their feet grow and they will then be able to walk in a few years.
